McDonalds food review 2020

Chicken Nuggets

big maccheese burger

  • Chicken nuggets: I like them because they’re crispy and crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. Also I love to eat them with honey or buffalo sauce (7/10)
  • Fries: McDonalds fries are my favorite because I like salty fries and they’re thin and crisp. (10/10)
  • Crispy buttermilk chicken: love this chicken sandwich because it’s tender and crispy. And I like the buns (7/10)
  • Big Mac: Big Mac is a classic. It’s a simple go to cheeseburger sandwich. It has bread in the middle, but I don’t really care for it (7/10)
  • Hot n spicy: this is from the dollar menu, and it’s a nice spicy chicken sandwich. It’s a simple sandwich, not enough to probably fill someone up, but it’s definitely good (7/10)
  • Cheeseburger: this is also from the dollar menu so it’s affordable. It’s a simple Burger but it’s overall good. (7/10)

McDonald’s Sweet BBQ Bacon Chicken Sandwich Review

Dry and very crunchy, the McDonald’s Sweet BBQ Bacon with Buttermilk Crispy Chicken sandwich was a bit of a let-down. And being smaller than expected, the only thing big about this fast food menu item is its name.

McDonald’s Artisan Grilled Chicken Review

mcdonalds chicken artisan sandwich

As we said in 2016, one of the fast food trends to watch for is more descriptive names for new fast food menu items. Well, try this one on for size: McDonald’s Maple Bacon Dijon with Artisan Grilled Chicken Sandwich. What a mouthful!

Every few years it seems McDonald’s takes another run at building a better chicken sandwich. They usually fail, as described in our 2015 review of their then “premium” sandwich. And a link in that article back to 2011’s sorry state of affairs. Well, chicken lovers rejoice: there is a better chicken sandwich now at McDonald’s as part of the Signature Crafted lineup. It’s not great, but it is better. Read on.

McDonald’s Homestyle Quarter Pounder Review

mcdonalds homestyle quarter pounder

During a recent trip to Dallas I tried a burger that isn’t nationwide: The Homestyle Quarter Pounder. It arrived in this fun cowboy wrapper shown above. This is your basic Quarter Pounder mod, and we’ve reviewed plenty of them in the past as McDonald’s loves to play with toppings on their mid-sized staple.

McDonald’s New Improved Premium Chicken Better But Still Not Great

Back in January 2011, I posted this review observing that McDonald’s simply doesn’t appear to put a lot of thought or care into making a good chicken sandwich.

Tonight I walked into the same McDonald’s in Crystal City Virginia where January’s sandwich was encountered to find that they are now advertising “New” premium chicken sandwiches.  Now, since the McDonald’s website doesn’t seem to be promoting an upgraded line-up, my curiosity was piqued.

The “improvements” seem to be in a new bun that promises 8g of whole grains.  Other than that, I did not see or taste much that had changed in the last six months.  Below is a reminder of what that old sandwich looked like:

The new sandwich had the same ingredients, stacked in basically the same order.  The meat was not flavorful, the tomato lonely and thin, and the only component that could be described as “juicy” had to be the gob of mayo on the bun.

I can’t even blame the particular location.  Just compare McDonald’s own press picture for their chicken sandwich with my personal favorite from Carl’s Jr.  Both are grilled (charbroiled in Carl’s case) and have bacon, swiss, lettuce, tomato and mayo:

Just look at the two sandwiches and tell me which one YOU’D want to eat.  If McDonald’s own food stylists can’t make their sandwich look as attractive as the competition’s in a controlled environment, how do they ever expect to compete?  Maybe they don’t want to.  I don’t know, but I do know that, for chicken sandwiches, McDonald’s will not be first to come to mind.

C’mon McDonald’s – Make Chicken Right!

mcdonalds chicken club

Why is it that McDonald’s cannot master a decent chicken sandwich?  I tried the Chicken Club premium sandwich the other day.  Nice touch that you can opt for grilled rather than fried, but the kudos stop there.  Look at what I got:

Does this look appetizing to you?  The sandwich was as boring, dry, and tasteless as it looks in the pic.  Built from the bottom up, the ingredients are assembled as heel, chicken breast, swiss slice, tomato, lettuce leaf, mayo, and crown.  Interestingly, these are the same items in the superior Carl’s Jr. and Hardee’s Chicken Club.  But while Carl makes his sandwich juicy and flavorful, McDonald’s take is bland and uninspiring.

McDonald’s – it is time for you to step up and put together a chicken sandwich worthy of your status at the top of the (fast) food chain.
