McDonald’s, in some markets, is experimenting with an “under 400 calorie” menu. Note, the items on this menu are not new, they are just organized by caloric content. Interesting approach, however, I suspect it suffers from the same flaw as the salad. That is, consumers think they are eating lighter but, after you order three 400-calorie items (burger, fries, and a non-diet drink) you are back up over 1200. Same problem as those who perceive salads as healthy and then pile on fried chicken strips and Ranch dressing. Note that the Premium Caesar Salad is listed as 200 calories but “excludes dressing.” Really? Who eats a Caesar Salad without dressing? That’s just a salad.
Buyer beware. At least you are more informed.
