Let’s take a quick look at the way Carl’s Jr. coupons have evolved over the course of 2016. Recall that at the beginning of last year I was lamenting the fact that these coupons had gone from 2-for-1 deals to a simple $1 off or throwing in a free side and drink instead of a second sandwich. Well, the trend continues.
First, here are coupons for free small fries and drink with a purchase of a Famous Star or Western Bacon Cheeseburger. These coupons expired on 1/2/16:
Jump up to October and the Famous Star one is still hanging on but now a coupon for a Western Bacon Cheeseburger is $1 off a combo.
Wow. Remember at the beginning of 2015 you could get $3 off two Western Bacon Cheeseburgers. Now you don’t get two. And you have to buy a combo. And you only get $1 off.
Jump forward to December and the trend continues, with the small fry and drink being free not with the purchase of a Famous Star but rather the larger Super Star.
Ouch. Also in December, and rounding out the 2016 year, you can get a free drink with a Thickburger (no fries anymore) or $1 off a Super Star Combo (not just the sandwich.) Or you can opt for a free Western Bacon Cheeseburger if you also buy a Western Bacon Cheeseburger combo.
Carl’s Jr., you are getting much too expensive and your coupons are no longer very valuable. I can only hope that 2017 sees some better perks but I expect more likely we’ll continue to see a decline. Watch for free smaller sandwiches with the purchase of a larger sandwich combo. That’s a particular prediction that feels inevitable.
