For those who don’t want a traditional Reuben, Arby’s has a fast food sandwich alternative – the turkey-based Rachel. Both sandwiches are constructed in similar fashion and have similar ingredients except for a few slight differences. The Reuben, pictured below, is described on the Arby’s website as:
Marbled rye bread filled with freshly sliced corned beef, melty Swiss Cheese, tangy sauerkraut and creamy Thousand Island dressing. This is a reuben sandwich inspired by the New York standard.
We’ve reviewed the Arby’s Reuben before. Back then, the sandwich debuted “for a limited time.” It’s nice to have seen it stick around.
On the other side is the turkey-based Rachel. Same sandwich, different meat: Roast Turkey, Big Eye Swiss Cheese, Coleslaw, Thousand Island, Marble Rye
I am a fan of coleslaw, not of sauerkraut. Likewise, I like turkey better than corned beef. My wife is the opposite. She likes the Reuben and thinks it satisfies the craving for that type of taste without becomming “offensive.” I like the Rachel’s approach. It strikes a good balance between salty and savory turkey and sweet and juicy coleslaw.
With two sandwiches, you are sure to find one that appeals to your particular tastes. Give them a try!
