Revisiting The Habit, a fast food burger chain that started in Santa Barbara CA and has a smattering of locations in the U.S., I ordered the Double Charburger. This is a big sandwich. With the grilled onions features so prominently on this burger I cannot help but compare it with the In-n-Out DoubleDouble. But don't be fooled: The Habit double is much meatier than its rival.
It probably stacks up more akin to a regular hamburger at Five Guys. Let's see if that's true:
Item | Size (g) | Calories | Fat (g) | Sat Fat (g) | Cholesterol (mg) | Sodium (mg) |
The Habit Double Charburger w/cheese | 356 | 780 | 67 | 24 | 150 | 2810 |
In-n-Out Double Double | 330 | 670 | 41 | 18 | 120 | 1440 |
Five Guys Cheeseburger* | 453 | 944 | 70 | 28 | 175 | 1387 |
*Since you build your own Five Guys burger, for comparison we used the cheeseburger (2 patties), 2 slices of cheese, lettuce, tomato, onions, pickles, and mayo on a bun, of course.
So yeah, it's in the ballpark. Look at that crazy amount of sodium though in The Habit option. Wow.
Flavor-wise, you could build a Five Guys burger to taste similar. But the meat is definitely different at The Habit. More smoky and, well, meaty. If In-n-Out's patties were thicker I imagine this is how they'd taste. I like all three and The Habit is worth a trip. At $9 for the combo, it's not cheap though.
