mcdonalds mac jr and cheeseburger

Just for fun, here's a side-by-side comparison of the new McDonald's Mac Jr. next to the standard cheeseburger. I had a feeling they'd both seem about the same size, at least for the patty.

Both burgers sport similar dimensions, although the Mac Jr. comes on a traditional sesame seed bun, sans middle bread. The Mac Jr. is, essentially, a Big Mac minus the middle bread and one patty. Or so I thought...

Bonus! They slapped two patties on my Mac Jr., which gave me almost a complete Big Mac. However, if you compared them side-by-side, you've got two similarly sized sandwiches. Nutritionally, the Mac Jr. is higher in all counts, which is no surprise:

Item Calories Fat (g) Cholesterol (mg) Sodium (mg)
Cheeseburger 300 12 40 740*
Mac Jr. 460 27 70 830**

Sadly, McDonald's is no longer listing sodium content on their website. But pulling them from other online sources you can see that they are pretty close. The Mac Jr. is also only slightly "better" than the original Big Mac, so you're really only saving the nutritional impact of the second patty (which I received anyway!)

Net result: The Mac Jr. tastes more like a meal than the basic cheeseburger.
