I don't know why I let McDonald's trick me into trying their chicken sandwiches. They are always a disappointment to me (see here and here.) Take the new Artisan Grilled Chicken sandwich as the latest example of how McDonald's simply cannot make a decent chicken sandwich to save their lives.
I would blame myself for the blurry picture, but the sandwich tasted blurry as well. It was bland, boring, and uninspired. The fast food chain describes the chicken sandwich as "100% grilled chicken breast filet seasoned to perfection with ingredients like salt, garlic and parsley – seared in our kitchens, no preservatives added. Crisp leaf lettuce, fresh tomato, and a vinaigrette dressing. All atop our delectable artisan roll."
Just look at the number of little signs in this Del Taco fast food drive-thru. Four signs are visible but there were actually five, covering everything from new carnitas to very old, sun-faded promos for taco night. This is not counting the signs above and on the sides of the drive-thru menu. C'mon, Del Taco, If I am in your drive-thru, I am already a captive audience. You have me already.
Back in 2013 we reviewed the fried chicken version of the McDonald's Premium Chicken and Bacon McWrap fast food "sandwich." Back then, we were quite pleased with the taste and generous portions offered. In addition, the quality of the ingredients seemed high.
Flash forward to 2015, we wanted to see if the sandwich stood the test of time. So this time, I ordered the grilled chicken version.
Still arriving in the same funky Hot Pocket-style tear-away box, my McWrap was excellent. The chicken and a big slab of bacon were sticking out of the front of the wrap in what can only be described as the closest resemblance to the food stylist promotional picture of any food item I have ever ordered!
For those who don't want a traditional Reuben, Arby's has a fast food sandwich alternative - the turkey-based Rachel. Both sandwiches are constructed in similar fashion and have similar ingredients except for a few slight differences. The Reuben, pictured below, is described on the Arby's website as:
Marbled rye bread filled with freshly sliced corned beef, melty Swiss Cheese, tangy sauerkraut and creamy Thousand Island dressing. This is a reuben sandwich inspired by the New York standard.
We've reviewed the Arby's Reuben before. Back then, the sandwich debuted "for a limited time." It's nice to have seen it stick around.
Someburros, a small Mexican fast food restaurant chain in Arizona, has revamped its look. Same menu, just a refreshed logo and branding. I noticed their restaurants are doing some small stuff as well, such as swapping out mult-colored string lights for plain white on the patios. Happy to see the investment and also happy that I can still order my "chicken burro, enchilada style, red."
We've updated the Someburros menu, and here's a little video from the chain.
Muy bueno Someburros!
Here's the Classic Salad from El Pollo Loco. From the website:
"Choose between deeply marinated fire-grilled chicken or Baja shrimp, then add crisp shredded lettuce blend and authentic corn, pico de gallo salsa, Cotija cheese, corn tortilla strips and fresh cilantro. Served with creamy cilantro dressing."
I found the salad to be generous, tasty, and satisfying. As I pointed out in last year's Grilled Chicken Salad Review for this very same fast food restaurant, the chicken in El Pollo Loco's salads seems completely different in taste and texture from the whole chicken pieces you get at the same restaurant. This chicken is a bit more dry, although that could just be the result of a whole chicken breast cut up and then stored for use during the day. I have no idea.
